Liebherr selects LUIS system for series production
Technology from Hamburg-based AI expert LUIS Technology GmbH is now also being used in Liebherr mobile cranes. It reliably prevents accidents.
LUIS Technology is pleased that its products are now also integrated as standard equipment in new mobile cranes from Liebherr. The embedding of advanced driver assistance systems in the latest generation of mobile cranes underscores LUIS's position as a leading provider of AI-based technology – and for more innovative safety on the road.
One pair of eyes on the driver's seat of a mobile crane is often not enough. The Liebherr company is a well-known name for powerful machines. Therefore, the decision to use LUIS products as additional “eyes” to prevent blind spots is a logical step. Both the LUIS TURN DETECT 4.0 and the Moving-Off Information System (MOIS) are used. The assistants are specially tailored to the unique requirements of Liebherr mobile cranes. The latest cranes in the LTM series, such as the recently introduced LTM 1400-6.1, are now equipped with them as standard. By mid-2026, all mobile cranes in the Liebherr portfolio are to be successively converted.
AI products up to date
The TURN DETECT 4.0 AI technology from LUIS works as a turn assistant (Blind Spot Information System, or BSIS for short) and can detect pedestrians and cyclists. Two digital cameras monitor the areas in the blind spot next to the mobile crane and warn the driver visually and acoustically. The Moving-Off Information System (MOIS) is a moving-off information system. It was specially tailored by LUIS to the needs of mobile cranes. The two cameras on the windshield scan the area in front of the vehicle to detect people in the danger zone. This is particularly important because vehicle operators have a limited field of vision due to the boom and crane hook at the front.
LUIS has its own AI team at its Hamburg location. “Our expertise is based on a high level of investment in software, extensive training data and experience. We are, of course, very pleased that Liebherr also relies on our products and uses them for series production,” says LUIS Managing Director Martin Groschke.
And this expertise strengthens both companies: “We are pioneers, particularly in the field of AI-based assistance systems, and we are living up to our market-leading role. We will continue to develop our AI services,“ adds Managing Director Groschke. Especially because many assistance systems are mandatory for newly registered vehicles at the EU level from July 2024 under Regulation 2019/2144. In this way, LUIS is also contributing to the goal of eliminating road deaths in the European Union by 2050 (”Vision Zero").
